Mr White saved my life too. I feel lucky to have had someone so honest, caring and experienced explaining everything to me and undertaking my surgery. He made me feel calm and confident about what was going to happen. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better at a time when the best is all you can hope for. Words can’t even begin to explain my gratitude and appreciation for what Mr White has done for me and all the other people he has ‘fixed’ over the years, which I’m sure there are plenty. I thank him with all my heart.

well where do i start, mr white was recomended to me by a friend i had a tumor removed from within my spinal cord and i was a nervous wreck and must admit i called them on a regular basis before my surgery with every worry under the sun. at no point was i made to feel like i could not talk to someone and after speaking to his team i knew they where the ones i could trust, the hardest part was overcoming my fear of surgery and they even helped with that, when i can to the day of the surgery it took two porters to wheel me into the prep room and one stayed with me as they put me to sleep, wht more could anyone ask for you have a surgeon who cares for his patents and also is one of the best at his job and he also picks a perfect team to make sure everything goes as well as i could. thanks to barry and his team i am on the mend from my surgery and have overcome my fear of operations in all my life i have never known such a great hospital and such a caring team of people.

I came to the qmc Nottingham to have a large dumbbell cervical spinal tumor removed. Mr White came highly recommended to me. He did not disappoint. Fantastic bedside manner, made me feel at ease straight away. Very informative and stepped through my procedure with detail. Came to see me on more than one occasion and sorted any concerns I had quickly and efficiently. His patient - doctor skills is something he has already passed on to some of his team, I hope the younger members learn to listen to the patient as well as he did and remember it's a two way process. Very grateful for all they have done!

You are all thinking it, Barrie White saved my life! A friend of mine cruelly suggested, he was happy it's not Stevie Wonder! Barrie put up with my hilarity (I think he deduced, it was my way of dealing with a brain tumour) through a life changing experience and always treated me and my family with a great deal of respect and as much time as we asked for. Time and questions, which in hindsight, were often unreasonable on our part. It's clear Barrie really cares about care and puts himself in the mind of the patient and their family. My main concern prior to the operation was the feelings of my partner and family on the actual day. I felt I would be knocked out and would hopefully wake up, but they had to live every hour. Barrie and his team dealt with this concern and my family incredibly throughout. In fact, "if Carlsberg designed a surgeon to play with your brain .....!" he would look, sound and behave like Barrie White! Extremely credible, and caring, you could not ask for better. I sit here writing this review 10 days after a 12 hour brain surgery operation with a grade 2 verdict on the tumour itself. Incredibly yesterday, Barrie phoned me personally to deliver this news, expectation was that it would have been a grade one, I suspect lesser people may have chosen to allow their staff to deliver less positive news. We now realise, that as a sports obsessed and fit 38 year old, Barrie White really did save my life. Before my operation it turns out it could have been all over for me while playing football a few weeks before I write this review. So I maybe subject to a little bias when I write that I feel as though I have learnt a great deal from this experience. Both in how precious life is and from Barrie as a doctor and as a man. He is a very humble person, he treats all people with great respect, integrity and wisdom. Clearly if there is a Barrie White fan club I would be head of it! He and his team will have our wedding invite in the post! Special mentions should also go to Barrie's colleague Laurie, whom I found extremely personable, credible and reassuring. Laurie supported me and my partner as a single point of contact before the operation and was very patient when I showed insensitivity to the demands of her day job. Also to Daniel in Barrie's team (I think that's right!) who exhibits many of the best characteristics of Barrie reassuring, gifted, putting himself in the mind of the patient. Despite clearly being very busy always made lots time for me answering any questions, after the operation in as much detail as I wanted. For someone about to go through this or similar.......the major part of the journey for me has been the hospital stay after the operation, as it's when your conscious, The nursing staff are second to none with good specialist knowledge and personal skills. I would recommend getting a good understanding of how to live in the hospital from a patient point of view. My one week stay got better as I recovered but also as I learnt the rules of how to live in hospital. Positive mental attitude and meditation helped me greatly as you are left with your mind and your hospital views, smells, sights and sounds. This experience has inspired me to want to give something back, incredible people doing an incredible job, in a very humble manner. I will act on this in various ways as soon as I'm able. To be honest despite the long waffle above (sorry!) no words can adequately express my thanks and admiration to Barrie and his team!

Mr White recently operated on my spine. From my first contact with him and his nurse Ms Cotes I felt completely at ease. All procedures were explained in terms that were easy to understand and realistic outcomes explained. Mr whites skill is admirable but his manner with patients is equally responsible for the successful outcomes. I never had any doubt that he would do exactly what he said and throughout he offered realistic reassurance. Today I have been discharged and again I have been told exactly what Icanexpect. There is no doubt whatsoever that it is the Consultant that is at the forefront of the exemplary care at QMC
